Ingredients
a
3 cup all purpose flour + 1 tbsp for dusting
u
1 tbs unsalted butter
s
1 tsp salt
b
1 tbsp baking powder
w
1 cup warm water plus tbs
l
1 tbsp lard
g
1 tbsp granulated sugar
e
1 whole egg
Directions
1
In a large bowl, combine butter, and lard and then mix until butter and lard has broken down.
2
Now, add salt, sugar, baking powder and warm water. Mix well until it forms a dough. It will feel sticky and soft, that’s okay. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes on a clean surface without any flour. If your bowl is large enough, knead it in there.
3
Allow the dough to rest in a warm spot for 1 hour. Now is a good time to run to the store or take a little nap.
4
The dough has rested for one hour and now it’s time to knead it again for an additional five minutes.
5
Split dough into two parts with the roller, shape it like a pizza, start rolling and keeping that round shape. Use a small sprinkle of flour on the surface and on the roll so it does not stick but not too much. Roll the dough for about five minutes with flipping the dough over.
6
You should have the dough pretty thin in a round shape, it’s okay if the shape isn’t perfect. Now, roll the dough into a loaf. Tuck each tip of the dough onto the bottom of the loaf. Place on a nonstick baking sheet.
7
To make egg wash, add the egg and water to a small mixing bowl. Whisk vigorously until well incorporated and thin enough to spread smoothly onto baked goods.
8
Spread egg wash on loaves and let it rest again for 30 minutes. At this time, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
9
Bake bread for 35 minutes, place in the center of the oven. Do not open the oven until the bread has been fully baked, it will have a nice golden brown. Like me 😏
10
After bread has fully cooked, take it out and let it cool down for a few minutes. This bread recipe tastes a lot better when shared with others! Enjoy it with a hot cup of coffee and my pineapple jam.
