Hot Honey Tofu Tenders

Ingredients

For the tofu:

1 block 1 lb super firm tofu

⅓ cup soy sauce

For the coating:

1 cup flour

1 tbsp cornstarch

1 tbsp chicken seasoning

1 cup vegan buttermilk

c

1 cup cornflakes

For the 'hot honey':

3 tbsp maple syrup

3 tbsp hot sauce

For the dip:

¼ cup plain vegan yogurt

2 tbsp vegan mayo

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Salt to taste

1 tbsp chopped dill

For the tofu

Drain the tofu and press out any excess moisture with a paper towel. Slice it lengthwise into 4 pieces.

Put the tofu in a bowl and marinate with soy sauce. Set aside for at least 15 minutes.

For the coating

In a shallow bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, and chicken seasoning.

In another shallow bowl, lightly crush the cornflakes with your hands.

Dip each tofu piece first into the dry flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.

Mix the vegan buttermilk into the same bowl. Dip the floured tenders into the vegan buttermilk mixture, and finally press them into the crushed cornflakes to coat completely.

Lightly spray the tofu tenders with cooking oil.

Air fry the tofu tenders for 15–17 minutes at 390°F (200°C), flipping them halfway through, until they’re golden and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

For the 'hot honey'

Microwave the maple syrup and hot sauce in a small bowl for 1 minute, or until the mixture thickens slightly.

Once the tenders are done, brush them generously with the hot honey mixture.

For the dip

Combine all the dip ingredients in a small bowl and stir until smooth.

Notes

*Chicken seasoning can be replaced with 1 tsp each of smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. **To make vegan buttermilk, mix 1 cup of plant milk with 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes before using.
